Earth Charter U.S. announces winners of the 2010 Sustainable Business Awards

The Earth Charter US Sustainable Business Awards honor companies in the Tampa Bay area that exemplify the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. Chosen from 32 nominees, this year's recipients demonstrated creativity in this year's difficult economic environment, maintaining their commitment to retaining employees, contributing to the community and safeguarding the health of the planet.

Honorees were chosen by MBA students at the University of Tampa's John H. Sykes College of Business in a class project for the course “Sustainability: the Triple Bottom Line.” Students recruited promising businesses, developed criteria on social, environmental and financial performance, conducted one-on-one interviews with executives and employees and then rated and ranked the finalists. The criteria for the awards were developed using sample sustainability metrics including the Global Reporting Initiatives, Sustainable Seattle, Sustainable Florida and the U.N. Global Compact.
