Secretary General of '92 Earth Summit Shares Thoughts on the Earth Charter

Maurice Strong was the Secretary General of the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and is currently a member of the Earth Charter Commission. In a recently released series of video interviews with Earth Charter International, Strong discusses where the Earth Charter has come, where it is going, and some of the difficult challenges our global community faces in implementing the principles of the Earth Charter.

Three major jewelry retailers vow to stop selling dirty gold

In a bit of exciting news on the sustainability front, several major jewelry retailers, including Sears Holdings (Sears and Kmart), Ultra Stores, and Blue Nile, signed onto a pledge to abide by the No Dirty Gold campaign's "Golden Rules" that set base standards regarding the human rights, labor, and environmental conditions under which the gold they sell is produced. With the addition of three more retailers, the total is up to 60 signatories.

Update from ECUS’s Partnership Project in Zambia

We recently received an update and photographs from our Community Action on Poverty and Environment (COPE) partnership project in Zambia. The COPE project was formed by the Workers Education Association of Zambia (WEAZ) and Earth Charter US to address challenges in public sanitation, the environmental degradation caused by firewood collection, and unsustainable agriculture practices.
