First rains come to Haiti, more support will be needed

With hundreds of thousands homeless after their homes collapsed in the earthquake, there is a serious danger of disease spreading when the seasonal rains begin. Many fear the dangers of latrines overflowing and sanitation becoming an even more pressing problem.

In an effort to assist those in need in Haiti, Earth Charter U.S. is supporting Friends of the Orphans, an organization that has a long-established presence in Haiti and has been able to provide immediate relief to the most needy. Friends of the orphans is providing permanent homes for abandoned children in Haiti, medical assistance in the form of four mobile clinics, day camp for vulnerable and displaced children, and distributing water and food on a daily basis.
