Thursday, 19 November 2009 12:40
Earth Charter +10 marks the tenth anniversary of the Earth Charter since its launch at the Hague Peace Palace in June 2000. It is a yearlong celebration of the many milestones and accomplishments of the Earth Charter movement during the past decade. Events to celebrate and engage people with the Earth Charter will be taking place around the world throughout the year. Earth Charter US is inviting Americans to join the global celebration by organizing EC+10 gatherings in their homes and communities on December 3, 2010 in conjunction with the Earth Charter International Event in Ahmedabad, India.
Earth Day is the launch of EC+10 with a major event being held in Mexico and other countries hosting simultaneous local gatherings. The partnership between Earth Charter International and the Global Reporting Initiative (the gold standard for measuring sustainable businesses) will be recognized at an event in Holland on June 29. In September, the Earth Charter Queensland Committee is organizing an Australia-Pacific Earth Charter Festival in Brisbane Australia. Ancient wisdom and sustainable futures is the theme for the Southeast Asia Conference in October in Taiwan. The launch of a new strategy and priorities for the Earth Charter Initiative will take place during the event in Ahmedabad, India which also has a strong focus on Earth Charter in education.
Earth Charter US will be launching the EC+10 campaign in January. In addition to ways for local hosts to interact with one another via the web, speakers will be webstreamed from the event in India and an offer will be extended to enthusiastic Earth Charter volunteers for a free trip to join EC celebrants in India.
